Adobe Illustrator Tutorial - Create a Glossy Play Icon in Adobe Illustrator

 

This tutorial showing you on how to create a glossy play icon in Adobe Illustrator. The Gradient panel and Appearance panel will be used to in this tutorial as well. Enjoy!!

Final Image

1. Click Ctrl + N to create a new document with 500px X 500px document.

2. Use the Ellipse Tools(L) and hold Shift key to create a circle at about 200px width and height.

3. Fill the shape with Linear Gradient (First Swatch: #E6E7E8; Second Swatch: #999B9E; Third Swatch: #808285) and set the angle at -90 degrees.

4. Select the shape and go to Effect > Stylize > Drop Shadow.
Enter the properties shown in the below image and click OK.

 

5. Focus on Appearance panel and add the second fill using the add new fill button.
On the gradient panel, fill it with Linear Gradient(First swatch: #58595B; Second Swatch: #808285; ThirdSwatch: #BCBEC0) and set the angle at -90 degrees.

6. Select the new fill and go to Effect > Path > Offset Path. Enter -5px.

7. With the grey circle still selected, on Appearance panel, click the add new fill button to add the third fill.
Fill it with Linear Gradient (First swatch: #E6E7E8; Second Swatch: #6D6E71) and set the angle at -90 degrees.
Go to Effect > Path > Offset Path. Enter -4px.
Keep working with the Appearance panel and click the little arrow icon to expand the effect of fill. Click the transparency panel and change the blending mode to Overlay.

 

8. Make sure your grey circle still selected and focus on Appearance panel.
Click the add new fill button to add the fourth fill.
Select the new fill it with Linear Gradient (First swatch: #4DCDEF; Second Swatch: #00AEEF; Third Swatch: #0084EF) and set the angle at -90 degrees.

9. Make sure your shape still selected, and then go to Effect > Path > Offset Path and enter -10px.

10. Add the fifth fill for using add new fill button.
Select the new fill it with Linear Gradient (First swatch: #00A4DB; Second Swatch: #00AEEF; Third Swatch: #4BD1EF) and set the angle at -90 degrees.
Then go to Effect > Path > Offset Path and enter -15px.

11.Make sure your grey circle still selected and focus on Appearance panel.
Click the add new fill button to add the sixth fill.
Select the new fill it with Linear Gradient (First swatch: #4A1E2D; Second Swatch: #FFAFFF) and same set the angle at -90 degrees.
Go to Effect > Path > Offset Path. Enter -20px.
Keep focusing on the Appearance panel and Click the transparency panel and change the blending mode to Overlay.
Set the opacity at 60%.

12. Select your grey circle and keep focusing on your Appearance panel.
Click the add new fill button and fill it with black color.
In the transparency panel and change the blending mode to Overlay.
Lower its opacity to 60% and go toEffect > Path > Offset Path. Enter -29px.

 

13. Make sure your grey circle still selected and click add the new fill button on Appearance panel.
Select the new fill it with Linear Gradient (First swatch: #F1F2F2; Second Swatch: #939598) and set the angle at -90 degrees.
Go to Effect > Path > Offset Path. Enter -32px.
Go to Effect > Stylize > Inner Shadow and enter the properties shown in the below image and click OK.

14. Let’s continue with the play icon.
Use the pen tool to draw a play icon.
After finish the drawing, scale it for using selection tool.
and position the icon in below place.  

 

15. Fill the play icon with black color.
Keep focusing on the Appearance panel and set the opacity at 20%.

16. Still selected your play icon and add the new fill button on Appearance panel.
Select the new fill it with Linear Gradient (First swatch: #00C5E9; Second Swatch: #0081AA) and same set the angle at -90 degrees.

 

 

17. Go to Effect > Path > Offset Path. Enter -3px.
Go to Effect > Stylize > Inner Shadow and enter the properties shown in the below image and click OK.

18. Using a Ellipse Tools (L) to draw a round shape on the button.
And set the opacity at 30%.

19. Duplicate it by using Copy and paste and lower opacity of new round shape to 60 %.

20. Using pen tool to draw a arc line first.
Focus on Stroke panel, enter the weight of line to 7pt and profile is width profile 1.
Lower its Opacity to 30%.
